Red River by Alex Moore
About the artist
Alex Moore is a born and raised, New York City based artist focusing exclusively on polaroid and film photography. Alex began work with polaroids while studying art abroad in Paris in 2016. Since then he has found success across several solo and group shows in NYC, LA and in the Hamptons. He recently published his seventh photography book, BODYSCAPES.
About the process
"Working at the intersection of intimacy and scale, I create large-format mosaics built entirely from original Polaroid photographs — shot across the American West and beyond, gathering unlikely neighbors: rock n’ rollers backstage, beautiful women caught in unguarded moments, vast western landscapes stretching beyond the frame.
Back in the studio, I lay out hundreds of these original prints by hand, finding the ones that speak to each other across subjects and time zones. Embedded into each piece, the shifting tones and textures flow seamlessly from one photograph to the next.
Up close, you’re reading dozens of private stories from wildly different worlds. Step back, and one unified image takes shape — something essentially, restlessly American. Together, they assemble into the figure of a cowboy: for me, the most enduring American symbol of freedom, authenticity, and an unbroken bond with the natural world." — Alex Moore
